Sinclare Job Interview

Warning, LBA (Long Blog Ahead)

07:30 - Woke up with a sense of excitement. What to expect at the interview today lei?

I was very excited when I first started my current job three years ago. For a recent graduate who don't have any solid job experience, it is difficult to find the first job. I have just given up on finding an engineering job and started working at the bakery department at the T&T Supermarket. Not the sort of job you dream about after spending 6 years in University and left with a $40k+ in OSAP. I mean, it will be hard to paid off all the OSAP @ $8/hr.

09:00 - Arrived at work and try to finish the job at hand so I can get out of the office by lunch time.

It was by chance that a job I had interviewed before called me after my second day at T&T. Apparently, the guy they hired instead of me quit after two weeks. So they were desperate and offered me the job on the spot during the interview.

12:00 - Handed drawings and paper work to my boss and told him I was leaving. He didn't look too happy about it. Started complaining about the drawing I handed to him. . don't do it to scale, make the fonts bigger, this and that. . What ever the problem is, I will deal with it tomorrow. Than I am off.

It has been a steady three years at this job. Nothing too exciting, always the same. Not only the work I am doing wouldn't help me get my P.Eng license, the working environment is also not good for my health. So it was time to find a new job.

12:55 - Arrived at home and had lunch. Trying to come down and prepare for the interview at 4:00.

I didn't find this job myself. The HR department found me on Workopolis. It is always nice to be wanted. The problem is that they are looking for someone who have more experience in Engineering than me, I guess the only reason the HR is interested in me is he know he can get me for cheap. (The HR is also a CA).

03:15 - Finish taking a shower, shaved, and put on my good suit and the tied Sarah got me for luck.

It is a nice drive up 404 to Aurora. I think to myself how much time I can save if I only have to drive 20 min to work everyday. The place wasn't hard to find. So it was show time, time to sell one Ronald Chan as a capable Mechanical Engineer to be.

04:00 - "Welcome Ronald, thanks for coming." The HR/CA welcomed me and took me into the boardroom. Not like the boardroom where Mr. Trump fired all those people on TV, more comfortable and brighter.

The main purpose of this interview was not to see the HR guy, we already talk over the phone and he asked me all the standard HR question already. Today was to see the Engineering Department head.

04:35 - "Thanks for coming. We are still early in the interview process. We should have an answer by end of next week."

It wasn't a bad interview. They basically ask about more details of what was written on my resume. Just to make sure what I know and what I don't know. As I step out of the front door, I feel I am not the guy they were hoping for. Everyone want a guy who can come in and started contributing right away. The less training, the better. So unless they guy they want to hired is asking for too much money, I think I still continue my search for a new job.

But through all these, I always remind myself praying to God doesn't mean you get what you want. The key is to pray that you follow God's will no matter where you are heading. And that no matter if I get this job or not, I know I have lots and lots of B/S who care and pray for me. And that, I don't need to go through an interview to get :)
